Montenegro's liveliest resort.

Budva is the tourism capital of the Montenegrin coast — the anchor of the Budvanska rivijera, the stretch of coastline running from Bečići toward Sveti Stefan and beyond. More visitors pass through Budva each summer than anywhere else in the country.

At its centre sits the Stari grad (Old Town), a compact medieval quarter on its own small peninsula, still enclosed by its original Venetian walls. Narrow stone streets climb to the Citadela, a fortress with sweeping views over the rooftops and the Adriatic beyond, and lead down to Crkva Santa Marija in Punta, one of the oldest churches on the coast.

Budva after dark is a different city — the liveliest nightlife on the Adriatic, spread across the Old Town's bars and the beach clubs along Slovenska plaža. Just offshore, the bronze Dancing Girl (Balerina) balances on the rocks, watching over it all — the unofficial symbol of the city.

Local tip

Stari grad is atmospheric but loud in peak summer — the Old Town's bars and clubs run late into the night. For the same coastal setting with a quieter pace, look toward Pržno or Sveti Stefan, a short drive south.

Best time to visit Budva.

Budva follows the rhythm of the Adriatic coast, with a sharp swing between a packed high summer and a quiet off-season.

Spring Apr – May
Good

The sea starts warming and the Old Town is calm before the summer rush — one of the better windows for exploring Budva without the crowds.

Summer Jun – Aug
Peak season

June offers a good balance of warm sea and manageable crowds before Budva hits its stride in July and August, when the Old Town, beaches, and nightlife are at their busiest. Book accommodation well ahead.

Autumn Sep – Oct
Excellent

September keeps the warm sea and lively atmosphere of summer with noticeably fewer crowds — widely considered the sweet spot for visiting Budva. October settles into a quieter, more relaxed pace.

Winter Nov – Mar
Quiet

Most beach clubs and seasonal restaurants close for the season. The Old Town turns peaceful and local — a different side of Budva altogether.
